Hi,

I am an express entry applicant who is in India. Currently I have applied for OINP and I assume I will receive PR and land in Ontario within one year. I am immigrating with my spouse.

My doubt is regarding bringing my family members to Canada. Is it possible to bring our parents and siblings to canada? If yes, how? Please help me understand the process.

Yes - it's possible to sponsor your parents for permanent residency. However it takes time to qualify and time for the application to be processed. From the time you arrive in Canada and become a PR, assume it will be at least 9 years (quite possibly more) before your parents will be able to come to Canada as permanent residents. They can try applying a visitor visa or super visa during this time to visit you. However these visas do not allow them to move to or live in Canada - they just allow them to visit. Also, there is no guarantee their visitor visas will be approved.

As for siblings, if the siblings are under 19 years of age, they can be included in the application to sponsor your parents. Otherwise you cannot bring them to Canada and they will have to qualify to immigrate on their own just like you did.

You must work for 3 consecutive years in Canada earning at least the minimum required income to sponsor parents based on your family size, and then wait an additional 1 year for your tax info. So only in the 5th year from arriving in Canada, can you possibly apply to sponsor your parents. Any siblings can only be included if they are qualified as a dependent, at that time.

Also over the next 5+ years, the rules and requirements for parents sponsorship may change. You would need to go by whatever rules are in place at the time you want to apply.
