Hi,

Has anyone done a soft landing by road recently at the US -Canada Border at International Falls, MN? How was the experience? I would really appreciate some guidance on it.

- Is it advisable to travel in your own car or rental?
- Do they ask about the reason for soft landing? Is it okay to say activating PR now but will move later?
- Is it okay to use c/o friend's address for PR?
- Did you also apply for SIN in Fort Frances Service Canada center? How.long does it take?
- What are the questions they ask at the US border on rentry?

Thanks for the help!

1)Better to take a rental.
2)Yes, they do ask if you are moving that day, you can tell them the reason. yeah thats fine, you can say you will move after settling things back in US. Take a completed GTF form while landing.
3)Yes, if they allow you.
4)SIN doesn't too much time, now adays everything is by appointment, check if you need to take an appointment or else you can walk-in
5)General stuff, carry all your documents. you should be good.

Hi @swan0206 ,

Thanks for the reply.

Can you clarify your answer to 3)? "Yes, if they allow you."
Are there scenarios when they could refuse to send the PR card to a friend's address? What happens in that case: Are you then required to permanently move before CoPR expiry?

If they refuse to send your card to some other address, you yourself can apply online. People have been doing this in the pandemic. there are posts or threads where people have discussed this, you should be able find it on the forum.
