Dear Mandie,

I have gone through the link of workingincanada.gc.ca , and noticed that Social Work is not a regulated profession in Yukon, Nunavut & Northwest territories, in that case if I give one of these place as preferred location, would it matter if I apply before completing my MSW degree.

Shami

Hi Shami,
Excactly....however most immigrants' destinination is the popular provinces....so you are restricted to just these 3 provinces.
The first hurdle is immigration....if points is not an issue, I believe you can apply before completing your MSW.

IF YOU ARE A SOCIAL WORKER AND IF YOU NEED TO REGISTER IN ANY PROVINCE IN CANADA AS SOCIAL WORKER, it is a SIMPLE TASK

1. GATHER YOUR DOCUMENTS FROM THE SCHOOL OR UNIVERSITIES WHERE YOU STUDIED
2. DOCUMENT IT PROPERLY... BE VERY CAREFUL WHILE YOU DO YOUR DOCUMENTATION!!!!
3. DECIDE WHICH PROVINCE YOU ARE MIGRATING
4. SEND IT TO TO CANADIAN ASSOCIATION OF SOCIAL WORKERS, OTTAWA, ONTARIO, CANADA
5. WAIT FOR A MONTH OR TWO... YOU WILL RECEIVE YOUR POSITIVE REPLY!
6. BE HAPPY!
7. GET YOUR PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR WORK PERMIT
8. APPLY TO THE PROVINCIAL REGISTRATION BODY
9. BE HAPPY AND WAIT.
10 YOU WILL RECEIVE IT BY MAIL

don't wait your money and time by going to Ryerson University Program..
faculties from Ryerson suggested this option to me. so why you don't try this...

I TRIED THIS OPTION AND I AM SUCEESFUL... BUT NOW I DON'T WANT BE A SOCIAL WORKER.. I WANT BE A LAWYER.. SO I AHVE APPLIED TO OTTAWA UNIVERSITY LAW SCHOOL.. ( FORGOT TO SAY... I WAS A LAWYER BEFORE.. I GOT MY LAW EDUCATION CREDENTIALS ALSO GOT EVALUATED AND I NEED TO STUDY ONLY FOUR SUBJECTS TO STUDY..

Thanks for this informative post entemaria!
Well i think, its better to get us registered once we are sure about our PRs,
BTW nice post,

I couldnt agree with you more...not only do we have to be sure about our PRs, but also which province we are going to before registering. Average registration fee is about CAD$320..which is quite a lot of money.

You couldn’t get my point actually, sorry if it wasn’t clear. I have just urged not to invest the same amount even without the confirmation about our PRs.

Once we get out PRs, we can decide where to register.

Hope it’s clear now,

Cheers ;)

Agreed about the money part but it is a worth investment.
Eventhough I am not doing social work job , I kept my registration because it is worth to keep the title RSW for acceptance in community and jobs.
I have asked in the post to decide the province ASAP. If you look at the job postings in 'wowjobs', there is a gradual decline. SO DO NOT WASTE TIME.
By the way thank you Nash
Good luck Mandie on selecting your province

The reason is I am looking for jobs in various provinces...credential assessment has already been done by CASW but I couldn't afford to spend abt CAD$320 for registration in Alberta, whiles I am looking for jobs in Ontario, British Columnbia etc, which require their own provincial registration.

Yes Nashe I have reapplied......

Will u please share wat happened to ur previous app? Y did u need to reapply....

I reapplied because my job description matcher with this SW category and the process is faster ........ I lodged my previous applicaiton in 2008 before this new rule......and under the old rule....... no guarantee how long I have to wait for any decision to be made......
So I tried again....

Mandie,

My intention is not to settle in these three places, I was thinking about putting one among these as preferred location in my application.

I hope we can change the preferred location, if later there is any need.

Also can someone from the forum tell me whether the forms has to be filled using block letters or can we do the normal way, first letter caps and the rest small letter?

My child is smiling in her photo, though her mouth is closed. I tried several times, but all the photos she keeps on smiling. can this photo be used, I have seen on the website, that photos with "non expression".

Dear Shami,
1.As FSWs, we are not obliged to settle in the province indicated on our application form. We can move to where job prospects are good.
2.The instructions is to type or print in BLACK INK. Thus, it does not matter if it is in caps or otherwise so far as use caps for first letters of nouns (eg your name, place, organisation etc)
3.for your child's photos, I am not sure if you could be penalised for her smiling so far as her teeth is not showing. as per the instructions,
The photos must:
•show a full front view of the person’s head and shoulders showing full face centered in the middle of the photograph;
•have a plain white background;
•be identical (black and white or colour) produced from the same untouched negative, or exposed simultaneously by a split-image or multi-lens camera.
The photos must:
•measure between 25 mm and 30 mm (1” and 1 1/5”) from chin to crown;
•have a 35 mm x 45 mm (1 3/8” x 1 3/4”) finished size.

Hope this helps,
Mandie

Mandie,

That was a quick reply, Thank you.
