Hi,

I am a Canadian Citizen married earlier which ended up in a divorce, 18 months after her Permanent Residency status been granted.

My ex wife went on social assistance for a sometime while my undertaking was not exhausted which is a period of three years time starting from the day she became Permanent Residence. I am married again and wanted to sponsor my wife. I have read in the guide that I will not be an eligible sponsor for a new application since the person I sponsored earlier went on social assistance during the financial support undertaking I signed earlier at the time of applying for her my ex-spouse case. There is another thing that she used that social assistance after the divorce not during the time we both were married. I am confused and want to know the following:

1. If at all I can't be an eligible sponsor for my present wife due to the reason mentioned above. Is there a way I can pay off the amount my ex-wife has used so the debt can be cleared which can make me eligible to sponsor my present wife for spouse visa.

2. What is an average time Islamabad Canadian High Commission is taking to process a spouse visa case after they have received the application?

Much Appreciate the replies from seniors and all of those who knows the best advise.

Thanks.

1. You must wait until the undertaking period for your former spouse is concluded AND you must make arrangements with the social assistance office in your province to repay your wife's benefits. Unless both these conditions are present, you cannot sponsor your new spouse. Even if the undertaking period ends, unless you repay her benefits you remain in default and thus remain ineligible to sponsor a new spouse.

2. CHC-Islamabad: Average time is 26 months for 80% of cases. I understand that is somewhat shorter for wives, taking between 14 and 18 months, if she is not queued for an interview.
