Alright so here is our situation : We are French citizens holding a greencard, currently living in the US.

Our so who is a talented hockey player has been approached to play for a team in BC for the upcoming season, he will be a senior in the US.

First question : What kind of Visa for him as it seems study is only college undergrad not high school

Now, for mum and dad: We are lucky enough we can live wherever we want from a work perspective which is mainly in the US. We are not sure if we'll move with him or not but this is an option for us. In any given year we will be spending less thna 6 months in Canada, what kind of options do we have from an immigration standpoint?

Thanks in advance for your help

I have a similar question - so if you get an answer elsewhere, please share, and I promise to do the same. I am just starting my search, so I do not have any answers yet.
I am looking for a colleague. She has moved from Europe to the US and has a green card. She is a landed immigrant in the US. She would like to move to Canada, and we want to know how she can do this. We know she can come up for 6 months at a time - but can she work? And can her husband and children come? She would have a job immediately - her husband will have to find work.
She is a professional and her position at the company she will work for would not be an issue (already offered to Canadians, and her qualifications make her the best candidate of the applicants by a wide margin due to what she does - in other words, not taking a job from a qualified Canadian)
She would be willing to come up on a temporary work permit - or whatever is legally required - provided they do not completely uproot their family for nothing and have to return. Moving ahead of her family is an option - but not an ideal one.
Any help on where to start looking for info would be greatly appreciated - if we find anything out worth sharing, we'll post here as well.

Has her employer already secured an approved LMIA?

Her employer needs to provide her with a full time job offer and her employer must also obtain an approved LMIA (permission to hire her) before she can apply for a work permit. The LMIA process is quite long and expensive for the employer (expect the entire process to take 3-6 months). So it's important that the employer understand the LMIA process and begin working on it as soon as possible (if they haven't already).

If her job falls under NOC A, B or 0 skill level, her husband can apply for an open work permit to accompany her to Canada and live with her here. Her children can come as visitors and live here under that status, attend school as residents, etc.

He will need a study permit to study at the high school level in Canada. He'll need to find a school willing to accept him as an international student. Tuition for a public high school will be in the range of $12K to $14K per year. A private high school will cost more.

His parents won't in any way benefit from his status in Canada. If they want to live in Canada along with him, they really have two options. The first is for one of them to secure a full time job offer in Canada and then come here on a temporary work permit. The second would be to apply to immigrate. Immigrating is quite an involved process. They'll need to start by researching Canada's various immigration programs to see what it takes to qualify and if they qualify. Then they'll have to do the prep work to apply (including taking a language test, having their education officially assessed, obtaining experience letters from past employers, etc.). Finally they would submit an application or a profile that indicates they are interested in applying - and hope they are selected. There's no special immigration stream for Americans. They will apply just like anyone else. Detailed information here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/apply.asp
