Single vs married express entry

If a person is married with children but his combined CRS score is not up to the required level per draw and he wishes to apply single which will increase his score. Is there a possibility that, he after coming to Canada can sponsor the family ( spouse and children) ?

Has anyone taken this path?

yes, you can put your family as non accompanying

He can put your spouse as non accompanying and later on sponsor his family thru sponsorship stream which itself is a different beast.
