Single Parent - Humanitarian and Compassionate

Hey all

My dad is a single parent and he is alone back in home country. I do not have any siblings who can take care of him.

For being eligible for his PR we still have to wait for almost 2 more years. I have heard from someone recently that I can apply under Humanitarian and Compassionate ground and I might get his PR earlier.

Does anyone has any such experience? Any guidance would be helpful.

H&C is not meant as a means to circumvent the process of PGP sponsorship. IRCC knows people try this and it is very difficult to get a positive finding as it has very specific requirements and will probably take longer than waiting to sponsor him. It also requires him to be in Canada.

There's a chance an application for H&C could be successful if you are his only living child. (If you have siblings or other immediate family members in his home country but they simply aren't willing or able to take care of him - then it won't work and you should expect H&C to be refused.) As explained above, he needs to be physically in Canada in order to submit the H&D application. You can't apply while he's outside of Canada.
