Living in Ontario Canada, got my pr went and got my sin, my sin number starts with 1 but normally Ontario residents sins starts with 4 or 5, I am wondering if it's a new change.
My parents just got the SIN 2 days ago and they got starting with 1 too. They reside in Ontario. I don't know it seems weird as mine is 5. I've always heard 1 is assigned for Newfies. Maybe they changed it recently? Someone else with more expertise can fill us in

Social Insurance Number applicants in Ontario might have noticed their SIN start with the number 1 series, which is the same as for people living in the Atlantic region. Social Insurance office started to roll out SIN that starts with 1 series for people who applied for their SIN in Ontario region in the fall 2021. This move seems to be because of the 4 and 5 series SIN has reached its limit.
