SIN expiring - what happens to EI payments?

Hello, any help would be really appreciated.

My partner and I are in Canada on IEC working holidays. Our permits expire on the 14th of April this year. My partner has applied for a new permit and I will be applying for a SOWP.

My question is regarding EI. I am currently on EI. When my current permit expires, my SIN will too. Then once I submit my SOWP application, I will be on implied/maintained status. Will I lose out on my EI payments? I want to apply to extend my SIN but what if it expires before I am able to extend it?

Thank you for any help.

Yes your EI payments will stop. Since you can’t extend your IECs you are applying or a new closer work permit and a new SOWP so don’t believe you have implied status. Will let others weigh in on this. When did you both apply for WP+ SOWP?

Thanks for your response.

I was told that after completing my application for the SOWP, I'd be on maintained status.

My partner will get an ITA on Friday for the Young Professionals stream (judging by the pools for our country), and then will upload the documents. Our Working Holiday process took days only, so hoping this process is fast too, as I need his activated WP to apply for mine. So we are cutting it fine time-wise, but we had some unfortunate things happen which left us in this predicament...

If I could get my SOWP application in before 14 April, I'd be glad!

One more thing thats worth me asking... when my partner flagpoles, can I exit with him? Will I be allowed back in if I only have a week or so left on my WP?

Thanks a lot.

Under all IEC programs your spouse don’r qualify to accompany the applicant. Are you sure you qualify for an SOWP if your spouse is applying under the Young professional program? There is also no implied status from IEC to other programs like SOWP.
