SIN CARD expires before my work permit is renewed.

I currently have a work permit which expire soon. I know that I can work and stay in Canada, as long as i apply for work visa before the expiration of my last work visa. My question is, while I am waiting for new visa, how do i renew my SIN card, without any work permit?

You can't until you get a new work permit.

Okay, I found the answer on CIC web, for anyone who has the same problem.

I can still use my expired SIN number until i get a new permit, then I can renew the SIN card.

Yeah don't worry about it. I actually didn't renew my SIN card for a whole year and never heard anything about it. When I went up for renewal of it the next year and noticed my mistake of not renewing the year prior, she said it wasn't a big deal at all and they are changing that system soon anyways.

If you remain working for the same employer, nobody really cares. If you change employer, then it would show up right away as then they do seem to check the SIN number.
