Should I renew my Passport before I submit my PR application?

My current passport is supposed to expire in early 2019,
and I am wondering if this is the right time to renew my passport.

I am expecting my application to be submitted in May 2018,
and I am also planning to extend my open work permit in the same month
right after I submitted my PR application. (my current work permit expires this summer)

How long does it normally take for me to renew my passport?

Depending on country of citizenship, you might not be able to renew before six month from date of expiry. The processing time also depends where you are getting it renewed, it took mine a week (D.C. - Indian Passport). CIC states -

Expiring passports
If your passport expires within six months from the day you apply, you should renew it. Then, update your passport information in your application. This will make sure it is valid when we process your application.
