Hey Folks,

I was about to make my EE profile with a CRS of 440 (IELTS and ECA completed). However, I'm contemplating if I should leave my well settled life in Mumbai for Canada?

I'm single and VP in a financial MNC. I have access to gyming, Swimmming and a regular tennis player. Also a CFA charter holder. Fond of running early morning as well (August to March which suits Bombay's weather). If I move to a smaller town the standard of living will improve more. Right from cooking to household chores, I don't have to think once because of my housemaid. I've also travelled briefly to the US, Europe and Dubai and hence aware of the life there.

So I'm wondering, Should I or should I not try to immigrate to Canada. It's not being ambitious, I'm pretty ambitious and would like to explore places and positions further. Also I'm not risk averse being single. Being in finance, I suppose my profile will be best suited for Ontario (pretty harsh weather).

Should I try to immigrate to Canada ? What's driving you guys to relocate to Canada. Kindly share your thoughts.

Thanks.

Honestly, one cannot really answer that question for you. However, if I were in your shoes, I probably will stay back and here are my reasons for that:

1. The weather- you're only gonna get 3-4 months of sunshine and warmth here in Canada, and boy that sucks big time.

2. With the standard of living you already have at this stage, it will not be easy to give that all up and start almost from the scratch here. Also, you can always afford to take vacations, most likely anywhere you want. It won't be easy to afford all the luxury you currently have here if you don't find a job nearly as good as your current job

3. That being said, you should try to get a company transfer to Canada if possible so as to save you the hassle of job hunting and probably being unemployed for a while before you find something nearly suitable for you.

How old are you if you don't mind my asking? You can give an age range if that's more comfortable for you.

The reason I am here is because I went to university here and ended up working. Also, the chances of getting a job, needless to talk of a good one back in my home country is very very slim. So yea, that's the reason I've chosen to settle here for now. I really do miss home a lot since I'm the only family member here. It does get tough honestly but I'll be fine. I'm single too which makes it harder...

Yes, its anytime worth it. India as a whole is not a good place to live.

It's more like a personal call and depends on each individual.

I would suggest you think long term. Canada offers a lot more in terms of life satisfaction with a junior-mid level management job (which you would aspire for in the long run), the state helps you take care of your children's education and medical expenditures.

In india on the other hand, while you have all the luxuries, you will always be competing for limited resources most of the time in all spheres. Also on a day to day basis your environment isn't healthy (poor air quality being a major issue in all Indian metros), traffic which for me personally is a big deal and I will take snow any day over 40 degree humid heat.

On the flip side, in the short run you will face challenges like moving to a new city, being away from your family / friends for extended periods of time and some level of uncertainty with your career.

That is a small sacrifice according to me though. Canada does have a large Indian diaspora and I am sure once you decide to settle down here you will increase your social circle. Moreover once you get settled in, you can make a career in Canada as well given that financial services skills are mostly transferable.

So in short - you must take a call here, no one can help you take the right decision.

Thanks I'll have a look at it.

What's driving the guys here to immigrate to Canada ?

Majority of the people here are looking for what you already have ! Stay where you are !

-- Maids are highly paid, you won't be able to afford
-- Gym, swimming memberships are always highly paid, as the cost of labor is high,
-- You can run, no worries. Ontario to Alberta no tax on running !
-- Cooking to cleaning home and washrooms, laundry and daily household chores you will be doing yourself !
-- You will not have a family here (The most precious thing that you will realize only when you are away from home)

My reason to move is the safety, security, health and education of my CHILDREN !
