My spouse has a child from a previous relationship which I have never met and does not live with us. So I don't know how to answer the question about "how many family members" I have. It is not clear, because "you" could refer to just me, or to my spouse as well.

"How many family members does Giles Brown have? (This includes Giles Brown, a spouse or partner, dependent children, and their dependent children.)
Include yourself, your spouse or partner, and any children that you have, even if your spouse, partner or children will not come to Canada. Do not include your parents or any other relatives. "

Should I include the child or not? The question is ambiguous. If I answer wrong will it be misrepresentation?

Yes add your spouse child within EE.
If you get an invitation to apply ITA you can clarify the situation there

You need to add the child to the profile as the child is considered dependent irrespective of where the child is.
You will need to provide clarification post ITA. You should add the child as non accompanying as the case may be.
