Should I hire a law firm for PR or apply online on my own? I see that law firm charges a fortune but the cost of applying for PR seems to be quite less.
How much time usually it takes to obtain a PR?

It's entirely your choice. If you are willing to do the research on your own and ensure your application is complete - then by all means apply on your own. If you don't have time or don't feel comfortable doing this research on your own, then hire a lawyer.
