My wife is Canadian and returned to Canada for work about 6 months ago. I am still living in the US (and a US citizen) and would now like to apply for PR under the family class as soon as possible. I am not sure if I should apply from within the US or wait until I arrive in Canada? I am planning to move to Canada to join her in 5-6 months, and our application would still be going through processing at that time if I apply from within the US. Also, I don't know if I can move all of my personal possessions, car, etc. into Canada while my application is being processed, or if I will need to put them into storage until I am granted PR in Canada. Any help and advice is much appreciated!

In my opinion you should apply outland, from US. Inland applications are processed more slowly. You should wait with moving until you're granted PR.. and until then, ask for a temporary resident visa so that you can stay with your wife.

You should wait for other replies too , i'm not an expert.

Hope it helped though. Happy holidays! :)

Apply outland. I don't think under either scenario you can move all your things across the border before you have your PR status. If you apply inland, you won't receive permission to work for ~11 months and it's even longer to get your PR status. Plus, you shouldn't leave Canada during the process (there's a small chance you wouldn't be let back in, which would throw out your application). If you apply outland, you can start now and by the time you move up there, hopefully you'll only be a few months away from approval. Do you visit her via car or plane? You could maybe slowly try and bring some stuff with you when you visit or have her bring it back with her when she visits and returns. But the border guards probably won't look too kindly on someone coming in with all their possessions and no legal status.

outland is a lot faster! based on other applicants' experience
