Hi, I did a mistake in calculating 730 days. I was calculating 730 days from pr issue date on pr card to pr expire date. When I tried apply for renewal, it's saying I didn't spend 1095 days so I m not eligible. I couldn't come early to Canada due to pregnancy and baby was small. I came to Canada alone with 4.5 month old baby thinking to complete 730 days based on my calculation. Can anyone please guide me here.
1) do I have to apply for renewal before pr expiry date? Is it illegal to stay in Canada after expiry?
2) Can I apply before completing 730 days and provide above reason that I had small baby?

Or can someone pls advice me what do I do?

No, it's not illegal to stay in Canada after the PR card expiry. In fact, you have to meet your Residency Obligation (RO) of 730 days before you can renew your PR card. Having a small baby is not a reason for not meeting RO.

Thanks a lot for the response. Shall I wait to complete 730 days and apply for renewal. My pr expiry is 18-Dec-2023 and I will be completing 730 days on 20-Mar-2024.

Yes, you should wait until you complete 730 days or more (to give yourself some buffer to avoid miscalculation) and then apply for the renewal.

Thanks again. Also, want to ask, will Immigration officer ask me why I didn't apply for renewal on time after I apply for renewal? Or can they still deny my pr as I didn't complete 730 days in first 5 years. Sorry for asking so many questions.

just don't travel outside before you meet your RO (or even better until you get your new PR card)
