Short term unpaid research visit to Canadian museum.

Hello! I'm a PhD student at a UK university, and I have arranged a short term (2 week) unpaid research visit to the Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto, as they have collections I am interested in studying. My PhD is funded in the UK and I have applied (in the UK) for funding for the visit, but neither the ROM nor any other Canadian body are contributing to costs. The research is pretty much just data collection for myself. My contact at the ROM seemed to think there would be no need for anything other than the 'standard' tourist visa or whatever, but I thought it would be prudent to double check. I've had a look on the UK-Canada embassy pages but they're not very clear on my particular circumstances, and offer very little in the way of contact information.
I would appreciate any help you can give me!

I suspect that you will be able to do what you want as a "visitor" as it has no obvious impact on the Canadian labour market and is not more than a few weeks of study. It's more of a "business trip".
