Hi buddies,

I have few very important questions.. My CoPR is expiring in first week of April. I am planning to land in March for a short period and return my home country. I will get my PR card mailed to my relative and get it delivered to me. Now the question is,

1. Is there anything wrong with that plan? Can i do that?
2. If i have to travel back to canada before my PR CARD ARRIVES, will i be eligible to apply a PR travel document.
3. Can i travel to canada via road from USA with expired COPR before my Pr card arrives?

It is OK to do the landing and return home. A new PR actually has a couple years (technically up to three years short a day, but that would be cutting it way too close and leaving no room for emergency travel in the following two years) to make the move to reside in Canada.

Many new PRs do something like this.

The one potential problem is waiting until just before the PR visa expires to make the landing trip. stuff happens. A car accident. A sudden unforeseen illness. An erupting volcano interferes with flights.

Sure, for personal reasons I too waited to land until just weeks before my PR visa expired. But I was living a mere forty minute drive from the nearest POE, and was on the Canadian side of the border (living with my sponsor, my spouse).

Give yourself time to adjust your schedule if something comes up. Cutting it close too often means cutting it too close.

Yes.

Technically the CoPR does not expire. There should be a date on it indicating the date the PR visa expires (this is probably indicated in multiple items on the CoPR). The CoPR is a lifetime document, something to carefully preserve.

You will also have the cancelled PR visa in your passport (it is cancelled in the process of "landing").

If you can arrive at a land crossing POE by private vehicle, you should have no problems at all entering Canada displaying both these.
