I am immigrating with my family on a temporary work permit. We are shipping our personal belongings with regular post*. According to the page http://www.cbsa.gc.ca/import/postal-postale/person-eng.html we are exempt from paying customs on these things. But how do you let the Canadian post office now that the goods are personal belongings and shouldn't be taxed? The page does doesn't mention anything about that. Does anyone have experience with this.

* This genuinely seems to be the cheapest option when shipping from Switzerland. We are not shipping any furniture, so getting a container is not afforadable, and DHL and UPS don't seem to offer any kind of affordable shipping from here. If anyone knows of a better way to ship, do let me know.
