Hi there,

I was working for a company that said they would be moving our operations to other provinces and offered us two things - either employer paid relocation to the other location or a severance package.

I accepted the relocation before our office closed down, then 1 week before my start date at the new location, I found something else in the same city with another employer that I just accepted because It was a better offer.

I am wondering would I still be entitled to my initial severance or because I signed up for the transfer I would not get it? According to the company's HR the last time I spoke which was right before I accepted the transfer, I was advised that If I do accept the transfer and end up cancelling it later I would have to forfeit the severance.

Any workaround for me to get my severance?

Thanks

I don't see any workaround. You're not legally entitled to severance. Because you accepted the transfer, your situation is no different than someone who quits their job.

There's no severance owed to you. I wouldn't waste time or money pursuing this.

No.

As it seems your company offered you severance because with the move it would be like laying you off. But with your new decision you are quitting the company BEFORE the "lay off" takes place.

Thanks, that sounds fair enough
