Hello, I sent in an application to sponsor my husband in November 2012. Mid-February 2013 I called Immigration Canada to verify whether they had received my package or not. I had sent it to the office in Alberta, but was supposed to send it to Mississauga, Ontario. An email was sent to the office in Alberta asking them to either transfer my application to Mississauga, or send it back to me. I waited a week and called back Immigration Canada to verify the status of the transfer. I was told that it could take another 3 months to be sent to Mississauga, and then I'll have to wait another 3 months for the application process. Is there anything I can do to change this fate, and have my husband here faster? Please help :'(

may be you can tell them not to forward it and cancel the whole thing and send a new one?

The only other option will be to contact your MP to get this looked at OR send a new application, I am sure it will take you less than 3 months to get the application ready [may be 1 weekend] depending on whether you have all the docs with you.

When I was speaking to the person on the phone, they told me I'd need to send a letter to cancel the original request, and stating why. This frightens me, because what happens to the money I paid, and do they look at the application as tainted once you ask them to cancel to only re-apply?

if you cancel everything before they start processing it, they will refund the money you paid. I don't think they will care about the fact that you have applied, then cancel, then apply again if it's clear why.
However, you will have to get everything new - new medicals, new police certificate as they have expired etc.
not sure that canceling and re-applying is the best thing - might be better to wait until it gets transferred to Mississauga.
good luck,
Sweden

Vegreville probably receives 3 or 4000 pieces of mail a day. Do you really think an MP is going to get Vegreville to drop everything and search for an envelope?
