As per rule the sponsor on PR status must be present in Canada during the sponsorship process. But a temporary absence from Canada for short period will not hinder the processing of paper work. Therefore you can visit your spouse and return within a reasonable period.

thanks wilson for your reply.i confirmed the same with CIC today. The service agent suggested me that i can have a trip back home as long as my passport and PR card is valid. My consultant who helped me to file spousal sponsership recommended me not to visit back home as they believe that they may refuse to approve my case based on tht i had a gut feeling that they are wrong so called CIC for same.Thnks again for ur views..

Hi Wilson,

I'm a Canadian citizen and I have a pending sponsorship application for my mom. I just sent additional documents this month as per CIC request and they sent me AOR that the application and docs are complete. I'm waiting for the decision whether I'm approved as sponsor or not. My question, is it okay for me to work temporarily outside Canada for a year? Thanks.

No - unfortunately it's not OK for you to work outside of Canada for a year. To qualify to sponsor a parent - you must be living in Canada. It doesn't matter if you are a Canadian PR or citizen - the rules are the same for parent sponsorship. If you leave Canada for a year then you risk having the application rejected due to non residency.

Thanks Scylla the information. When is the good time for me to work outside Canada temporarily as contract worker? How about after I know that I'm approved as a sponsor and my mom is going her medicals etc?

You can work outside of Canada once your mother's application has been approved and she has received her PR visa. If you leave Canada any earlier, you risk having the file refused.
