Hi Guys, I'll to know how Hamilton Ontario is in terms of housing, Jobs(both menial and professional), transportation and people for I'm considering staying there for a few months until I receive my PR card..

Its a good place. I have limited knowledge, try google for wider information. Here are some advantages:
1. Closer to Toronto
2. Cheaper than Toronto
3. Commute to Toronto is frequent

Hi there

My best friend landed in Hamilton July 2009 they had to put a years deposit down on a rented house as no one would take them on a tenancy, they both found jobs after about 2 months by which time that had eaten into their savings quite a bit, the jobs weren't great (Minimum wage)but paid the bills and my friend was happy for about 4 months and then her husband got laid off and her daughter hadn't settled in school so they decided to up sticks and move to Calgary where they have been for 4 months they both found GOOD jobs really easily ( within 2 weeks of being there) and a nice house in a good area, her daughter is really happy and settled in her new school and the one thing she said to me was that if she were to do it again she would want to travel around a bit first and get a feel for some other areas.

Hamilton is a lovely area but can be pricey in certain areas ( as anywhere is I guess) but experiences are varied, I always beleive in my gut instinct if it feels wrong then it probably is and if it feels right GO For It!!!

Whatever you decide good luck and safe travels

Lib xx

She said the people were really friendly in Hamilton but it's like a different world in calgary and they are so happy there

Based on Real Experience:
Good calm down, not like big cities
less jobs
normally people want you to pay rent in advance using 12 months advanced dates cheques (normally dated 1st of each month); as its a university town they can easily rent their houses to students.
Travel to Toronto around $13 one way, $24 return approx 18 buses every day travel time 1h 30M (avg)
Less jobs as students take up lots of part time jobs and do extra hours employer prefer as no overtime payment, no or less benefits.
I stayed in Hamilton for a month near McMaster Uni.

Scarborough is fine area concering cash jobs and survival jobs. It is touching toronto and commuting is easy. Some problem of law and order is there in some places of scarborough. It is not suggested to settle in scarborough for very long time or buy property. Qorax is having very sound knowledge of this place as his friend is senior cop there.
