Hey folks,

So CIC replied my email of adding spouse to my CEC application. I sent everything by scanned copies. They are saying they are unable to upload my attachments and they asked me to send in one file and the file size should not exceed 5MB.

Given the materials I have to provide in supporting genuine relationship, it is really difficult for me to come down to 5MB. The close I can get is 9MB. I am wondering forum members who have the similar experiences, what did you do? Has anyone sending multiple files or bigger than 5mb file succeed?

Please let me know, I really need help on this.

Thank you

I saw earlier you had 130 pages - why so many pages - be sensible mate - people like you clog up the already highly overworked CIC systems and put undue work-load on their staff

Did you ever received a emailed delivery failed permanently. When I first tried my size was 19 MB. I got the Delivery failed permanently email right away. Then I tried couple of more time and finally got acknowledgement automatic reply at 9.97 MB (it was my 7th try).

Also seniors please help here. What are your previous experiences with attachment size?

I provided those documents based on the questionnaire suggestions to make my case strong. You cannot possibly blame this to the fellow applicants. We have paid our fees and we are doing what exactly what CIC requested. What is wrong with that?

Show some respect please.

Hi,

As stated earlier, I used an android application named CamScanner which takes a pic of the documents and saves it as a pdf file.

I don't think CIC needs everything to be a part of one file. I have sent my spousal documents; each requirement as a separate file and the file size has never exceeded 5 MB.

Kindly let us know what exactly are you doing so that we can respond in a timely manner.

Hi,

There are various PDF size reducer applications like PDF Toolkit. You can use that to reduce the size of your scanned copies as it will reduce the resolution of the scanned copies without making considerable changes to the documents.

Thank you nhixon, I gathered all documents into one pdf file (required documents + proof of relationship) and total comes to around 100 pages. The documents are:

- scanned spouse's photos
- updated forms (approximately 10 pages)
- questionnaires for both (about 15 pages)
- passport copy, marriage license (about 5 pages)
- notarized birth certificate (4 pages)
- explanation letter on FBI clearance (5 pages)

So as you can see, it's already 40 pages without proof of relationship. As indicated on the questionnaire, I also provided proof such as wedding photos, itinerary details, hotel reservations, communication records and photos during relationship.

So you did send multiple files and there is no issue with this? if so, I am going to divide all my documents into 2 files, which should be under 5MB each. do you think will this be OK?

I tried a few such as smallpdf.com. The original saving preview as reduced file size game me very low resolutions. I want to use Adobe Acrobat PDF optimizer but it's too expensive.......

any reply guys? Do you think it's a better idea if I send everything by mail? In this case I don't need to worry anything about size.

Hello i had some issues with my attachment as well and same answer from CIC to send document under 5 MB. I ended up using google to reduce the size of MB of pdf file. There are couple websites which will help you. You just need to upload that one document and it will be reduced. Suprising from 6 MB it was only 200 kb. And the uploaded my document as well.

I did use some websites to reduce the size. My original file is 60MB big and I managed to reduce to 9MB. Some websites can downsize to under 5MB, but the resolution is not so good, which made me worry that if CIC will ever accept it.

Check with them the next day. I send them the document on Monday and on Wednesday i called them and they mentioned it is uploaded to my application. If you have concern then i would suggest ask CIC agent what would be better.

another question, have you guys sent separate email to 'cost-recovery' email address with scanned copy of fee receipt for your spouse's processing fee and RPRF? I also paid upfront RPRF for myself altogether.

I was in similar situation and I sent my wife's document by mail (Canada Post). The only document I sent to prove our marriage was marriage certificate obtained in my country. Also, she has my name in the spouse field on her passport.
