Dear all,

I am in the process of preparing my Express Entry application and I've had difficulty deciding the right NOC for my work experience. Below is my background:

Job title: Senior Research Analyst
Employer: management consulting firm
Type of work: full time (40 hours/ week)
Experience: 7 years (with 1 sabbatical year in the middle)
Education: Bachelor degree in International Business Economics

Job duties:
- Market Research and Vendor Sourcing:
o Conducted market research, regulatory analyses and identified potential buyers and distributors. Clients are from public sectors (like Economic Development Organizations, investment promotion agencies and multi-lateral organizations which promote trade and attract FDI for their country/ region) as well as private sector.
o Advised on market entry methods and legal entity establishment
o Assisted in organizing trade missions and B2B meetings

- Site selection/ Location Analysis:
o Conducted research and provided advisory on the industrial real estate market for multinational corporations
o Performed due diligence on short-listed locations
o Negotiated with the final option and supported the undertakes of the transaction as well as investment license application.

- Business Development Support:
o Researched and produced collateral materials for sales meeting presentations and proposals
o Composed prospective customers lists and made cold calls
o Attended networking events, investment/ trade seminars, workshops, etc.
o Authored and co-authored articles and sector briefs

I was confused between the 2 NOC below:
1122 - Professional occupations in business management consulting
4163 - Business development officers and marketing researchers and consultants

While I was employed by a management consulting firm and I analyzed and provided advice to public or private sector establishment clients as mentioned in the NOC 1122 page, what I advised was not about methods, systems and procedures in areas such as operations, human resources, records management and communications. On the other hand, some description on the NOC 4163 page does cover my job duties, such as: Conduct comparative research on marketing strategies for industrial and commercial products; Prepare reports, articles; Provide consultation on planning and starting of new businesses, however, this NOC is said to be “employed by government departments, international organizations, marketing firms and business associations” which is not my case. In both NOCs, the match with my job duties are less than 50% so maybe it belongs to another NOC that I missed out?

Could you please help?

Thank you in advance!
