I would say your chances are close to zero. How can they put together what you have been doing in your life to research? Refugee to someone entrusted with our security; I DON'T think so. At least not until you have been here about 5 yrs or so. Now, if your have cleared immigration and the job is not defense-related. Lets say one that involves teaching or working in a school, for example. What you have to do is get a police security clearence. No problem, you go to the police station, pay a fee and they check your criminal recoreds if any. They fingerprint you and then take a photo. You wait until the police check comes up clear and then you get your security clearence to work with minors.
