Hi,

I am working with multi-national pharmaceutical company as general manager since last 9 years. I am planning to apply for Canada immigration. I looked at canreach.com/canada/skilled-workers-professionals-can-immigrate-to-canada link for qualifying category. But I did not find any category for people working for pharmaceutical company.
The nearest category was "0311 - Managers in health care". It would be grate help if experienced people can advice me.

Regards,
RK.

Hi,

I have found following category at following link matching to my profile

www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/NOC/English/NOC/2006/QuickSearch.aspx?val65=*

416 Policy and Program Officers, Researchers and Consultants

* 4161 Natural and Applied Science Policy Researchers, Consultants and Program Officers
* 4162 Economists and Economic Policy Researchers and Analysts
* 4163 Business Development Officers and Marketing Researchers and Consultants

Can you please suggest, how can I verify if this is part NOC? Someone in my office suggested that NOC list is changed & lot of categories are removed from the list. I would be thankful to you, if you can help me to verify if this category is part of new NOC list or not.

Regards,
RK.

Hi,

Is www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/NOC/English/NOC/2006/QuickSearch.aspx?val65=* this link is good to verify matching role & responsibilities?

Please advice.
RK.

Right now 4163 is not on the list:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/apply-who-instructions.asp#list

All anyone here can tell you is what is currently on the list, nobody here knows (and if they did know they wouldn't be able to tell you) what may happen in the future. There's rumors they may change the list, either adding or removing categories, but until you see something on the CIC site, there's nothing you can do. There's no point applying now if your job is not on the list. Keep checking for changes and if your job appears, apply.

Yes, the HRSDC website is an official source of information on NOC codes. You can search the NOC codes by key word. This link shows all the NOC codes that come up when you search using the key word "pharmaceutical." You do not say what you are a "general manager" of - sales? production? research? that will matter for the correct NOC code.

http://www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/NOC/English/NOC/2006/SearchKeywordResult.aspx?val11=pharmaceutical&val12=0&val13=0&val14=&val15=0&val16=0

"0311 Managers of Healthcare" - healthcare is a misnomer for medical care. This would not be appropriate unless you were a manager of a medical service or facility.

The "list" that Qaxlor is referring to is the list of occupations that can qualify to immigrate without arranged employment. From what we know of your occupation, it is not on this "List of 38" (Category 1)

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/apply-who-instructions.asp#list

However, if you were able to obtain a job offer, your occupation would qualify as a "skilled occupation," (NOC level O, A, or B - managerial occupations are level O), and might be able to immigrate under Category 2.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/apply-who.asp

But, of course, it is quite difficult to find a job before you come. Some people do it, so it may be worth looking into the employment situation for your occupation.

I am head of Market Research for Asia operations. Qualifying based on FSW sounds quite tough. Please feel free to share, if you have advice for me.

Thanks,
RK.

So most likely, 0123 or or 4163 depending on duties.

It's complicated. The "list of 38" are intended to make it easy for people in occupations with known labor shortages.

For the rest of us, it's find a job first and come as a temporary worker. After 1 year you can qualify under the Federal Skilled Worker Program, after 2 years you can qualify under the Canadian Experience Class program.

(If you get an offer of permanent employment before you come, your employer can apply for an "Arranged Employment Opinion" and if approved you will qualify. But you can't come to work until your permanent resident application is approved, so the employer has to wait a long time - not easy.)

If you work for a large multinational with operations in Canada, an intra-company transfer is possible. And look at Temporary Work permits as an option -

Qaxlor & jes_ON thanks a lot for replying, it is very helpful,

One of the possibility
- Find a job (have offer letter)
- Apply for temp work visa (processing takes 2 - 28 days)
- Apply for PR after one year of Canada work experience.

Am I correct? If yes, can my family come with me to Canada on temp work visa (I hope yes but would like to have comments).

Thanks a lot,
RK.

Yes and no - it's basically right but oversimplified. For a TWP, if you find an employer, they will have to apply to HRSDC for a Labor Market Opinion - they have to prove that they are unable to find a Canadian to fill the position. So there are other steps involved and it takes longer than your scenario. Also, it depends on what your country of citizenship is, whether or not you need a temporary resident VISA in addition to a temporary work PERMIT.

http://www.hrsdc.gc.ca/eng/workplaceskills/foreign_workers/inffornat.shtml

As for the permanent residence (PR), if you apply after 1 year through the FSW program, there are different options with different requirements - Cat 3 requires "proof of funds," Cat 2 does not. CEC does not require proof of funds.

I like to help people to help themselves. We have provided several links. All your questions are answered on the CIC and HRSDC websites. If you are seriously interested in coming to Canada, you will begin reading :)

yes you can apply under 9212 category which includes Pharmaceutical production supervisor.
as you said you are a manager in pharmaceutical company.
