The majority of international students do not come accompanied by their parents. There are some exceptions. The majority come from wealthy families because to keep extending their tourist visas the families have to show a lot of excess savings. The international student program is not set up for parents to accompany their children and there is no promise of parents being able to secure visas/permits. It is much more common for international students to live with relatives, family friends, members of religious or community group they belong to or in a large group together with someone e running a business watching them. Many Canadians that supplement their income by taking in an international student.
