School age criteria-please help.

I am really confused as many people say they lost one year of their child when shifted to Canada.
Any link or info about what is age criteria for school admission.
As here in India cut off date is April first, if child turns 5 years before April 1st than he is eligible for Grade one.
My child completed 13 years in November this year, what class he will be admitted?

Ummi,in Canada grade placement is determined by student's age and not according to which grade he / she was studying in India or Pakistan,..something that I am finding hard to swallow. Cuz this way my kids will be pushed back by one or two grades if admitted there

I checked cut off date in Canadian system is December , like in O level school it is first September and in Indian curriculum it is 1 April.

you don't need to worry about it...your child will need to appear in an assessment at registration centre and if he or she would qualify for the required level, will find admission there....you need to bring last 2 years report cards along.....there are age limits for children in specific class..if a child finds problem with the language, he/she finds assistance with special learning programs..that are very effective....no need to worry indian kids are smart to qualify assessment test.

can we have some specimens of the assessment test for various grades, just to get the kids prepared in advance. Also can you pease share what is the big difference between and English public or English catholic school and which one out of these two suite best to our Indian / Pakistani kids. Thanks
