Friends,

I want to go to Canada for higher studies but very confused what course to select in fear or visa rejection because of several reasons:

-I've already done a Masters outside Canada.

-My B.Com. was in Accounting/Finance whereas my M.Com. was in Management but again, my work experience is in Accounting (A/c assistant).

-If I select a course in Management, VO may question why because my work experience is in Accounting so he won't see how it will help me.

-On the other hand, I doubt there are any courses in Accountancy which can be done especially after a Masters. CA, CPA, etc. are just exams, not courses. I have no idea if there are any reasonable courses in Accounting left for me.

I'm fine with studying either Accounting or Management or anything actually, I just want don't want visa rejection because the VO wasn't convinced of my purpose of study.

So according to you guys, what's the safest bet? Accounting or Management? Or something else? Also, study what? Masters or PGDM? And why?

My main aim is visa acceptance.

All your estimation regarding VO's mind is correct and there is no doubt!
In my idea you have 2 solutions,
  • You apply for mPhil in accounting or commerce or any related fields.
  • apply for master level again but in some fields like accounting management, or project management in accounting, bank accounting, which are offered by course.(I'm not sure in which Uni they offer this but I'm sure there is some where out there! these are all related to you.)
Hope it heps.

If I apply for an accounting course, the VO is going to ask me why didn't I pursue the M.Com. with a specialization in Accounting but in Management? It makes no sense, right?

On the other hand, I have an excuse for why my work experience is in Accounting (Acctg. Assistant in CA firm): I had joined that job in the last year of my B.Com. degree itself (2008-09) which had a specialization in Finance/Acctg. However, my aim after B.Com. was to pursue an MBA in Finance abroad but due to some financial issues, I wasn't able to and therefore, ended up doing an M.Com. in Management in my home country itself and leave the MBA idea for later.

The only question is why didn't I bother changing my accounting job then if my focus was on Management??? Correct?

A good thing about most of management courses is that you can jump in it with any background! For instance, if you go for master of management accounting, or master of finance; all is same indeed and related to your background studies and your work experience. You are not going to apply for chemistry or physics that are not related to your background studies at all.
On the other hand, you have another option which you can hide your working experience if you are too worried. But again, there is undoubtedly no problem if you apply for a master which is the combination of any two of accounting, finance, management, commerce. How is your results? Have you got any of GMATH or GRE?
Remember that if your main interest is management, you can write in your SOP that you want to be a manager of an accounting team. Because you have the experience of both sides and ... .

I haven't given GMAT/GRE but I have IELTS and French test results because I had applied for Quebec Skilled Worker Immigration in July 2012 but my application was returned by Quebec in October instantly because I didn't fetch points for my education according to them. That's another worry of mine, if the VO comes to know I had applied for Quebec PR.
