Friends,

I have my money in State Bank of India and I am abroad at the moment. Planning to do the landing procedures from here.

Can I show the last 6 months bank statement as POF during landing?

Please suggest.

ru talking about SBI branch in ca? (I heard SBI has branches in CA)... do u have a/c and the reqd. money in ca SBI branch?

u have to take funds with u when u land in Canada. so u can eother take money with u or u can open a account with a Canadian bank or sbi branch there and transfer funds there. and after that when u land there take a statement showing funds in CAD. statement form Indian branch won't do the job.

I have read somewhere in this forum that you can bring some cash with you upon landing and show an updated bank statement to fulfill the proof of funds requirement. http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/-t35989.0.html

Seniors please advise.

Hi,

Sanjeevindia is right, you can show bank statement for showing POF. But when you are landing you must have funds in hand to show at the POE.

Good Luck.

Take a look at this site.

In the third to the last paragraph it says "You are not required to carry your funds in cash when you arrive in Canada. You are, however, required to show documentary evidence that you have the funds available (in bank accounts or cashable investments), and that they can be transferred to Canada."

Sanjeev is right

At POE we have to show whatever we declared in our Application in form of CAD, Travellers chqs etc.
Now it is possible to open Scotia Bank Account when you are in India. It got tie up with HDFC BAnk.

What I know and from the link above-email from ND, funds can be shown in a Indian Bank as well. Logically until unless you land, how can you open an account. I know it is possible but I think bank statement with Indian Bank and money in Indian branch would and should work.

HDFC Bank has tied up with Scotiabank, Canada - to offer exclusive services for NRIs living in Canada and Indian immigrants to Canada.

On June 20, 2008, HDFC Bank announced an alliance with Scotiabank to facilitate banking for NRIs living in Canada and Indians who are in the process of immigrating to Canada. This alliance will also enable Scotiabank to provide an access to its customers for their banking needs in India.

This partnership leverages the regional dominance of both the banks and enables referral of customers both in Canada and India, to each other. Indians living in Canada can access information through designated Scotiabank branches regarding HDFC Bank’s services in India. Similarly, new immigrants to Canada can learn about Scotiabank services through designated HDFC Bank branches. According to Statistics Canada, between 2001 and 2006, 155,000 people immigrated to Canada from India. Scotiabank has launched the StartRight program offering several benefits to new immigrants as it expects this trend to continue in the coming years.

“As we celebrate Canada’s diverse multicultural communities, we are very proud to announce a new partnership with HDFC Bank in India. This will enable Scotiabank to reach out to people in India who are immigrating to Canada, and at the same time, provide our customers in Canada with a referral to one of the leading financial institutions in India.” said Sabi Marwah, Vice-Chair and Chief Administrative Officer, Scotiabank.

Dear Friends,

It is a very important issue. As per the CIC website,

"Disclosure of funds

If you are carrying more than C$10,000, tell a Canadian official when you arrive in Canada. If you do not tell an official, you may be fined or put in prison. These funds could be in the form of:

cash
securities in bearer form (for example, stocks, bonds, debentures, treasury bills) or
negotiable instruments in bearer form (for example, bankers’ drafts, cheques, travellers’ cheques or money orders)."

I was in the impression that, we can show them Bank Certificate/ Share/ stock certificate in Indian Currency which is equilant to sufficient proof of fund.

If it is not, why CIC says that Securities in Bearer form is enough?

Hi All,

To add my 2cents, this is my personal experience.

I am currently in US and have an account with Chase and a Credit union Bank, the Credit union is where my main bank. I had sent a question relating to Funds required at POE to Buffalo, for which I was asked to call CBSA directly and check with them. I am planning to land at Detroit-Windsor border by road and hence called the CBSA post at Windsor(Tel # given in their website), following is the summary of my call.

Myself : Good Morning Sir, quick question relating to show my POF at POE?

CBSA Officer: Good Morning, yes pls, what exactly do you need to Know?

Myself : I am having my accounts in Chase Bank and another one in a Credit union in US in USD and have my statement of accounts for the last 6months showing the balance I currently have, I am also planning to bring around USD 2000 for my immediate expense before I open a Bank account in Canada and transfer my funds to the bank here. Will this be sufficient or should I bring the required amount for a family of 4 in Cash/Travellers Cheque/Bank Draft and some cash?

CBSA Officer : As long as you have the required amount for 4 in any form you mentioned its fine, a Bank Statement from US bank dated not more than 30 days with USD should be good, you don't need to bring all the required POF as Cash/TC or Draft. But make sure that you have enough Cash/ Credit card for you to survive till your funds are transferred to the local bank which may take sometime depending on the bank from which you are transferring from US to the Bank in Canada. But if you are carrying more than usd 10,000 make sure you inform the US post and the IO at POE. Do you have any other questions?

Myself : No Sir, thanks for the information, have a nice day.

CBSA Officer : Good day to you.

Hope this helps atleast those planning to travel from USA.

Rgds
