Hello,
My husband and I used Edward Montgomery: emontgom@ualberta.ca

He is a professional and certified translator for Portuguese to English. I live in Nova Scotia, and he would do the translation, e-mail it to me to check it over then send it express post and it would arrive in less than a week from when I ordered it. He allows you to do wire transfer for payment, I was very happy with his services!

Hey guys,

Sorry I am new here. Do you guys still keep track of timelines?
We need to start the sponsorship process ASAP, me and my bouyfriend who is from quebec are applying as common-law. We could have applied for a while but only now we have the money to pay all the fees. I was sure to do the outland process but once I saw on the canada's government website that it's taking 14 months for processing the second part of the process I wonder if the inland is the best choice.
I already live in Canada, and I have a work permit that is valid until the very end of august, but I can not get an extension since it's a PGWP. And we live together and share the expenses in the house, it would be very hard for me to go without a job for a long period. So I'm guessing you guys that have been here for a while have a better idea of the timelines. Would my wait for being able to work be longer waiting for the whole outland process to finish or waiting for the first approval on the inland and sending my open work permit request with the application?I know the topic is for outland so of course, your answer would be based o the outland only.

I know you can only guess and time can be very different from case to guess. But overalll other people's opinions could help me calm down a bit. I am very scared about losing my job, it's a very good one and I was just given a promotion too.

Sorry for bugging you all
Thanks in advance

Hello, I understand what you're feeling. I was in the same situation. I had a valid work permit and I didn't know if I should apply inland or not.

So far from what I've seen, the first inland step is taking now 9-10 months. In August your permit will expire and I don't know if you'll have implied status. If you won't have, then you'll have 9-10 months to receive the First Stage Approval (around december). Then, it'd take another 9-10 months for the second part.

It's worth remembering you that you can't leave Canada during all this time.

Me and my partner, we chose to do it outland. Even though it says 14 months, our was done in 9 months including the strike time and some demands for more documents. I've seen people getting theirs in 4, 5.
If you can do it, chose outland. It's faster.

Just don't work after your permission is no longer valid, you can screw up everything.

We also did that. They described how we treat each others, the love, the relationship, how hard it was being away, how we look happy together, etc.
This is a good thing to do. I remember that I received my notes and they Immigration Officer wrote: "letters from family and friends supporting their relationship".

Bonne Chance!

No idea. But I did mine here in Québec. I think he charged me 35$ for a birth certificate.
I've just done the translations of my diplomas and that one was 40$.

He does "Portugues - English - French" and he is from the "Ordre des Traducteurs du Québec".

His name is Eric Fillion.

Good Luck

Thanks Quebec23!

My guts have been telling from day one to do outland, but you always question ourselves. Both immigration lawyers that we consulted at some point told us no doubt: do outland. But it's so scary to thing that I might lose a great job. That I won't be able to help out with the expenses at home. But I guess goinmt through that is better than facing being awya from my partner again, or not being able to go see my family for a while, because I haven't been home in over a year and a half. and at least we have the chance to re-apply if we are denied, since it's a common-law one and maybe it can be more complicated.
I guess now it's just about gathering as much as we can and send it as fast as we can and cross our fingers that things will go fast.

Thanks for the help. This whole thing is so stressfull.

Have you guys seeing any common-law cases here? Any complications?

80% of the cases are processes in less than 14 months.

When I lost my work permit, I changed my status to tourist. In this way, I could wait and still be here and I was away from my family for one year and a half too.
But it all worked out fine. As I said, I took the strike period and they asked for more documents (even though they said they didn't want it), all in 9 months.

Good luck!

Got my passport request today!!
So it really looks like they're trying to get rid of the backlog. Just over 4 months from mailing the application in to getting the passport request, versus the expected 15 months...not bad at all!!
You mean 3 months, right? You filed your application on the last day of October!
