Hi all,

I'm a Canadian citizen living in Brazil, and am planning to get married soon to my brazilian girlfriend. After the marriage, I am moving back to Canada for work, and so would like to bring her with me and apply for PR status using the inland application.

What's the easiest way to get her to Canada so we can start the inland application?

We could apply for a tourist visa, but she doesn't have any strong ties to Brazil (No job, just graduated), and so I'm worried the application will be rejected. We could apply for the tourist visa before we get married (as if she's going to visit her family in Canada on vacations), or after we get married (specifying in the application that she's going to Canada specifically to start an Inland application). I can prove that I have money to support her during her stay in Canada, but I'm not sure if the Tourist visa can be used specifically to bring spouses to Canada.

Another option that I thought of was getting her to apply for a professional program in Canada, and then apply for a study visa.

As you can see I'm confused. What is the best/most common way to go? Any insights?

Thanks!

Hi Gabriel22!
Welcome aboard!
Well, from what I see, I believe the option of "apply for the tourist visa before we get married" is the best one. Once you apply for it, then get married.
Advices anyone?

Hello people!

I just got an email saying:

Dear Madam,

We have requested a re-assessment of the results of your medical exams, and will advise you once we receive a reply from our Medical Centre.

Sincerely / Atenciosamente,

Visa and Immigration Section

Now, how long may this take?

Thanks Braziliangirl!

Your advice seems ok, but I'm left with one doubt: If we apply for the tourist visa before marriage, my girlfriend will have to have a round trip flight itinerary even though we know she won't be using the return. Would this be seen as dishonest? Could it affect the outcome of future visa decisions?

I went on the CIC website and looked at the required documents. One of them is Proof of Relationship. On the description for proof of relationship, they have "Marriage Certificate". With this in mind, would you still suggest getting the tourist visa before marriage? Wouldn't the most honest and transparent way to apply be to apply after marriage, and explain the real purpose of the visit.

Hi Gabriel!
I've heard on this forum and other places that, if you get married here and start your the process here, or ask for a Tourist's visa after getting married, they might deny her Tourist's visa, because they don't want her to go with you and, in the case of her Permanent Residence being denied (please, don't get me wrong!! this is how they think!), she wouldn't come back.
From I understood, she has family in Canada. Is that right? If so, ask them to send a invitation letter to her. Yes, get the round trip flight ticket, knowing she won't use it. Once she has the Visa, get married here or in Canada (or both! ;)) and start the Process for Permanent Residence. I don't think it will affect the outcome of future visa decisions.
Once married, you'll have the "Marriage Certificate" as one of the Proves of Relationship.
I'm not an expert about it, so I'd suggest you create a new thread here about it. :)

I hope I could be of any help.

Gabriel, I agree with BrazilianGirl.
I ve heard of happily married people who applied for tourist visa and got it denied because they claim ÿou re not a tourist anymore" so you don't fit that category. I d have her family send an invitation letter and not mention the coming wedding yet...
:)

hi everyone!

has anyone here applied for a CSQ?

my acas says `in process` but i havent received my csq yet, i guess they have to wait for me to send that document to them so they can finalize my application, right?

how long does the `in process`stage usually takes? cause i noticed in the time line some ppl got the `in process`after the passport request. and just a few days after the `in process` they got their visas...

this is all so confusing sometimes... i was hopping to get my visa by christmas, but i dont know... the wait is terrible!

other than that, do they always ask for your passport or just sometimes?

thanks! have a good night all !
