Hello there!
I've read through plenty of these forums and still find myself with some unanswered questions. My apologies if this isn't the place for this to be voiced, but i've seen so many brilliant answers figured i'd give it a try.
A little about us :
I'm a 23 year old Canadian citizen (born & raised) currently engaged to be married to my wonderful 22 year old American fiance. Her and I have done a few visits back and forth, most of my time being spent in the states. Originally we had intentions for myself to apply for the American K-1 visa but after reading through the requirements and much discussion, decided the pros outweighed the cons and it best for her to immigrate to Canada instead. Having said that, it is my understanding that we need to be married prior to our application as Canada does not have a fiance visa like that of the States?
Also, slightly confused as to the inland vs. outland sides of the applications. We are both currently employed in our respective countries, her a server and myself a nurse. With having said that, my income is more significant than hers and I am unwilling to leave it at this time. Also, I would not be able to support her fully at this time if she were to move and be unable to work. So its my understanding that outland would be best for that?
We intend on marrying in Illinois next time i go to visit, most likely just after the new year. And then applying for the application shortly after. I'm just wondering what the order for paperwork would be? And would we both still be able to freely visit back and forth while the application is processing?
Are there any other same-sex couples that could give me any ideas as far as any form of bias around this? Such as requiring more proof of our relationship, or apparent extensions in length of wait time while processing? Really just trying to get everything sorted so we know what we're up against.
Thank you so much for any kind words and helpful ideas.
