Safest way to collect PR card while in the US ?

Hi everyone. I applied for Canadian PR last year and was just told that my PR card has arrived at my relative's house who lives in Canada. Problem is I'm in the US and am wondering what's the best way to get the PR card from outside Canada. As far as I know, I don't think I can enter Canada anymore using my CoPR. So what are my options ?

Returning by private vehicle

There are other documents you can use to enter the country.

When you return to Canada, apply for a PR card if you plan to travel outside Canada again.

Some examples of private vehicles include, but are not limited to: a car, truck, motorcycle, or recreational vehicle that you own, borrow, or rent. It is a vehicle not available for public use.

Have your friend just mail it or courier or some other secure post method to your US address. It is not illegal for anyone to mail a PR card outside Canada people do it all the time.

guys, i saw it in so many thread that we can mail the pr card outside canada or our friend/relative can bring our card. Is there anyone you actually did that. Is there anyone who had his/her friend to mail his pr card outside canada or had friend to carry there pr card accross border? Thanks

You can, but you may not be able to use it to board an airplane. As a permanent resident, you have the right to enter Canada. That does not mean that the airlines (or buses, or boats) have the legal right to take you there. They are required to get proof of status, depending on your country of origin, and the CoPR is not proof of status.

The easiest thing to do is to have your relative ship it to you. Because it's a document (and not a good), customs gets to be pretty easy. I'd personally use Canada Post, if an option, then Fedex.

Alternatively, you can always drive up and pick it up in person. Alternatively, you can try to fly - they don't require an ETA at the moment. You wouldn't be coming as a PR, and it technically violates the rules, but nobody seems to have been punished for it yet.

Alternatively, your relative can come down to the states and give it to you, or you could meet at the border if you live near some place like Peace Arch.

I've brought immigration documents and ID across the border before. It's not a problem, and if you get searched, you just need to have a legitimate reason to have them. Intending to lie is bad, but running documents across is not.

Can my friend bring my pr card to my home country as i want to travel right after doing my landing so i can't wait for my PR card? I am not asking about traveling from US but asking generally or can my friend mail my pr card to me?

No one has stated the official CIC answer? Apply for a PRTD to reenter Canada if you don't have a PR card.

Anyway, collecting your PR card is now your personal responsibility, whichever way it may take, if you have to have it couriered or have a friend/relative meet you.

ETA is only applicable for visa-exempt passports like yours, but I suspect not in OP's case.

Either you can have it mailed or you can visit by private car as CoPR is accepted by border security. Only the airlines/commercial transportation don't accept CoPR.

Problem is I don't have a driver's license in the US so that's going there by car is probably not possible.

What if I applied for a Canada Visitor Visa and went there by plane ? Will Canada issue me a Visitor Visa knowing that I'm a Permanent Resident in their books ?

No they won't. The people with visit visas got theirs before they landed as PR.

You have to apply for a PRTD instead.

Or have your relatives send you the PR card by courier. It's fine to do so.
