I'm sponsoring my wife to come to Canada, and we've already completed the process to get the visa. Now we're just thinking about actually getting her here. I know that, at airports, the staff sometimes check to make sure the traveler has a return ticket. This shouldn't happen for a permanent residency visa, since obviously there's no expectation of returning, but I'm still a little worried, especially because she obviously doesn't have a PR card yet (since she has to arrive in Canada to get it). Does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks!

So are you saying that your wife will have her Confirmation of Permanent Residence (CoPR) letter? If so, then she can land on a one way ticket OR a return ticket, entirely up to you - as she will be declaring PR on landing. You may be surprised that for many airlines, returns cost less than a one way ticket!
