I was curious if any US to Canada applicants can share with me exactly how much they paid for their medical examination WITHOUT insurance? Just so we know what to have saved once they request one from us (if they do for US applicants?)

Thanks! :D

They will request a medical exam for US applicants. I did mine in Denver in July 2018 and it was $500. There was only one doctor on the list in the three states around me so I had to fly there which added to my cost. They did not accept insurance for the exam. I have no idea if that is a standard cost or if it can vary based on the physician. You can check the approved doctor list ahead of time. The one in Denver had a website that listed the cost and what the medical exam entailed, so I knew what to expect before I even got the med request.

Why wouldn't an American applicant be required to undergo a medical exam?

To my knowledge, none of the panel physicians accept insurance. Prices vary wildly between physicians. I paid $440 for my exam.

Oh wow that's really hefty, I was expecting maybe like 300...(Another reason why we're moving to Canada lol-also mine to come to the US was only $150 if I remember correctly)

Is there a list of doctors they allow us to use I can refer too just in case we need to save for plane tickets? My wife thought she found a few in Florida, but we want to be certain we're prepared and ready to go at the last second so we can get it done quickly .

Thanks so much!

I wasn't sure, that's why I was asking. Thanks for telling me your cost. I can assume I should safely save up for 500-600 dollars for the medical :D

Look here in this link for a list of authorised panel doctors. There are 4 in Florida, Brooksville, Hallandale (2) and Miami

http://www.cic.gc.ca/pp-md/pp-list.aspx

Immigration is an expensive business but look at it as a long term investment much same as probably was when you emigrated to the US.

Happy to help! Let me know if you have any more questions and I'll try to answer them.

So, you are a Canadian citizen and your wife is American? That is our situation as well. If you don't mind my asking, how long have you been in the US? We are still trying to sort out where we are living and have applied for PR in both countries. Ideally, we'd like to be dual citizens so we can live in either country.

I just did this exercise... they range anywhere from about $300 up to $750.

Only one that I called offered to try to use insurance if they can (the doctor in Michigan). We factored in travel cost + medical exam cost and ended up in Houston TX ($395) since it was driving distance from New Orleans. Germantown TN also would have been driving distance but they took 3 days to call me back, and never did give me a price. Everywhere else would have required a flight.
When you call around to get prices, make sure you ask if the X-Ray is included, as some are a little sneaky and give you a quote for everything except the X-Ray.

I'm not sure where you are looking in Florida, but I called both locations in Miami. One quoted $300 and the other quoted $700.
Hallandale FL Andrew Stachewitsch 954-456-1212 800 E. Hallandale Beach Blvd., #22 <--- the less expensive one

Another Canada-America couple here!
I've been in the US since college... about 15 years ago. I'm a dual citizen. Hubby is American, but now wants to move to Canada. We've been together 10+ yrs and have a little dual citizen 8 yr old daughter. I guess once his PR is approved, if he sticks around long enough to get citizenship we can all be part of the dual citizen club.

Oh wow! You didn't have to call but thank you for doing so! I was assuming we would have to go to Miami. We're just 40 mins south of Tampa, but don't mind driving to Miami! Thank you so much! We will go with them for sure! $700 is a little redic lol.

Ah! Thank you! I will do that for sure! We're assuming 600 so will save for that and will most likely have 100 or so for back-up if needed. Thankfully all the locations in Florida at the worst are 3 hours away, so no flying for us thank god!
