Hello Dear Friends,

I received an email asking me to go ahead and pay the right to permanent residence fee so I paid it right away and I was wondering what are the next steps expected for me after this?? Is everything finalized by now?? How long will the wait be before I finally receive the visa? Thank you for your help :D

it depends what visa office your application is at. every visa office has their own timeline for the process.

the visa office is New York and my other question is that would there be a passport request to issue the visa for a Canadian citizen sponsoring his American wife?

Americans are visa exempt, so no need for visa stamp in passport(which is primary reason for passport requests). They however ask for a photocopy of his passport if you didnt already provide that in application.

if this is family class sponsorship, pretty sure the visa office is certainly NOT NY. Defiitenly re-read your sponsor eligibility letter. My guess is it will say the application is be processed in the visa office "abroad", and gives the contact information for OTTAWA. US applications are processed in Ottawa, and in the case of an interview, LA. NY doesn't appear to process family class applications anymore, and there has been no reports of applications there.

Visa exempt applicants, such as those from the US, sometimes are waived passport request, so there is a chance you may never get one. No, sponsors never receive passport requests. The visa office can't issue the visa until you pay the fee. After the fee is paid, a visa exempt US applicant can expect a DM (decision made) from Ottawa probably in 2-4 weeks, if not sooner. If the applicant is not a US citizen, and requires a visa, then the office will send instructions about sending the passport to the appropriate visa office, again which will most likely NOT be NY.

Thank you so much guys so I paid my right for permanent residence fees and you are right I found out that my application is being processed in Ottawa. I guess now I just wait for the decision to be made. my spouse is mostly living with me here as a visitor so do they have to leave Canada and cross the border back in once the decision is made?? ::)

once they recieve their approval paper, they can go to a land border and "flagpole". technically, they don't enter the us. they go to the us border, tell them they are flagpoling and get turned around to go back to canada. it seems to be a pretty standard thing that happens.

having landed through peace bridge i found out that the border officers now want you to actually enter usa, and then return. I landed 2 weeks ago. They should have no issues since he is american though

Oh okay sounds good hopefully everything is moving forward now. My only problem now is that my wife who is the American citizen and I am sponsoring has actually forgotten her password for her email and she absolutely can not recover it :( >:( So for example I missed the paying the right of permanent residence fee notification until finally my member of parliament office told me... How can I solve this issue fast and change her contact to another email address??? The Ottawa CPC does not have a number to call :(
