Return to Canada, and should I disclose the legality of my work?

Hi all, I am currently living in Vietnam with my common-law partner and her daughter. I state in my application that I don't live in Canada and I have a job here (I teach english).

I said that the working conditions here are not so good, that I have a degree in Engineering which would be far more useful in Canada, and that the job prospects are much better in my hometown. I also kept a driver's license and a bank account in Canada. I said that I'm only staying here to be with my family. I also said that I want to go back to university some day. I'm attaching job descriptions and a previous expired letter of acceptance at university. Is it enough to prove I will come back?

Also, the legality of my current job here is... unknown. Should I disclose that? Maybe it will scare the VO (or maybe the VO will think I will do anything to stay with my family...).

Working illegally is not something I would admit to as you would be breaking the law... However, a Canadian driver's license and a bank account will not prove your intention to return to Canada. Settlement plans should include (if possible) a job offer in Canada, e-mails of job searches, e-mails of quotes for shipping your belongings back to Canada, e-mail inquiries looking for rental properties or inquiries about purchasing a home, letters from friends and family stating they know of your intention to return to Canada once your spouse receives her visa, A letter from a family member stating that once your spouse has received her visa you will be able to stay with them until you get on your feet. Apply to a new university or include e-mails of your inquiries into different universities. Your trying to prove what you will do in the future not what you have done in the past.

Edited to add: there is no income requirement for spousal sponsorship so you don't have to have a job to be approved but you may have to prove how you intend to support yourselves once back in Canada.
