Hello All,

I am an Indian citizen/passport holder. I was working in US on H1B when I applied for Canada PR in 2018. I received Canada PR Effective from May 2019 - Expiry May 2024. I moved to Canada in Jul 2021 with same employer. Now my employer is asking move to move back to US because of onsite work requirement. I do not want to move now as I have not completed 2 years (730 days) in Canada on existing PR and I do not want to lose PR status.
I have couple of questions -
Scenario 1.
If I stay in Canada till Jul 2023 (assuming no trips outside Canada till that time); I will be completing at least 730 days on existing PR Card. Then if I move to US in Jul 2023; will I be maintaining PR Status and can I return anytime to Canada after 2023 on PR renewal , let's say in 2027 without having to re-apply for new PR?

Scenario 2.
If I stay in Canada till Jul 2024 (completing 1095 days in Canada) ;
i. Can I leave Canada after applying for citizenship and do further steps from outside Canada?
ii. Can I leave Canada without applying citizenship and later can I re-enter Canada (after 4-5 years) and apply for citizenship?

Please help in getting this information as I tried looking for this information and every where it just says - To keep your permanent resident status, you must have been in Canada for at least 730 days during the last five years.

Thanks in advance.

It all counts/depends on when you apply for pr renewal(application).
Thats when they look at your previous 5 yrs and check if u meet the requirements. Upto you to meet the requirements or lose status.
probably best to fullfill the time fir citizenship and apply that…..

After the first 5 years the 2 out of 5 years becomes a rolling requirement so you’ll need to meet the 730 days out of the past 5 years on any day. After you‘ve met the 730 days you have up to 3 years to be out of Canada before you’ll fall out of status again.
