Hi all,

I'm an international student and want to apply an open work permit for my American husband to work in Canada as an English teacher since he has been teaching English for many years in different countries. I checked online and found that somebody got an OPW stated that they can not work in healthcare, teaching or domestic worker and so on. If it is also applied for our case, that's would be difficult for my husband to get a job there as he didn't have other experiences than teaching, I think.
Anyone came across this situation please advise!
Thank you so much!

The spouse of an international student isn't guaranteed a SOWP. Depends on a few things including your ability to support yourselves if he doesn't find a job. The condition about not being able to work in healthcare or with children is easy to solve. Your spouse needs to do a medical check and the flagpole at a border and they will take off the condition. I'm guessing you have not looked into the qualifications to become a teacher in Canada. You require a master's degree which is referred to as teacher's college. In some areas of Canada there is a huge surplus or teachers. French speaking teacher are really in demand all over. I'd encourage you to read about international teachers wanting to move to Canada on the teacher's association for each province. Best of luck.
