Hello everyone, this is my first post so I'll get to the point. I am an international student currently at the University of Waterloo, Waterloo, ON. My study permit expired late last year and I am about to put in a restoration request. My main problem now is that my fiances are looking really bad, CIC requests a bank statement from a Canadian bank in my name dating back the last four months. I've been here for about two years so this isnt a problem but for the last 6 months my parents have been having problems back home with fiances. I have proof of payment for my last academic term but even that was a late payment. international student fees are extremely high here. My point is, if I get about $10, 000 in my account before my 90 days are up and I submit my statement at that point, what are my chances of successful getting a renewal granted, despite my account being in bad standing for the rest of the statements time period? How much of a factor do fiances play in the decisions. This is my first renewal and restoration request and I have met every other requirement.. suggestions?

If you have your fee paid for the coming semester and you have around 3k you should be good...the catch is that the money does not need to be in the account.....once you get the letter, you can use the money...this was told to me by call centre..

I hope you are aware that you are only allowed to apply for resotration within 90 days or you SP having expired and that you are NOT allowed to study or work during the time CIC makes their decision.

As far as fund go, you need to show enough funds to be able to sustain yourself in Canada. So $10k plus fees sounds about right

Finances are very important when it comes to granting a renewal. CIC won't let a person stay in Canada if they cannot afford to, as there is a high risk of that person working illegally or becoming somehow dependent on the Canadian government.

They request several months of statements in order to verify that your finances are stable. An account in bad standing for several months that suddenly shows large deposit(s) immediately prior to submitting an application is very suspicious. CIC will know exactly what you are trying to do and will request proof of where the deposit(s) came from.

You would be better off submitting your finances as they currently stand, without borrowing money. Include other evidence that you can support your studies and yourself.

If you and your family honestly can't afford for you to stay and continue your studies, then you really shouldn't.
