resignation during the wait of sponsorship approval...Pls HELP!!!

I am going to resign my current job and move to another city for other opportunities, however I am still waiting for my sponsorship approval, which might be coming in couple days according to CIC status.

touch wood!! if I still don’t get it after resignation, will it cause any problems? will CIC phone my employer and assess my information??

please help....much appreciated.
