Hello,

I Would appreciate any input regarding my inquiry, it is a little out of the norm, so any help is appreciated.

Im Currently a PR card holder, i was wondering if i was to work in the United stated, specifically Michigan on a J1 scholar visa (research assistant), while residing in Windsor and commuting daily, meaning i will sleep in Windsor and return to it daily.

Will those days count towards my 1095 days of physical presence in order to quality for Citizenship Grant?

No problem at all given anyway the day you leave and the day you come back count as days in Canada. If you are leaving and returning same day then you still count that whole day as a Canada day.

Keep a 100% accurate log record of all of your border crossings; that means every single one, no exceptions. It would be impractical to get stamps in your passport as you'd run out of pages pretty rapidly, even in a 10yr passport, but ideally you'd want cast-iron proof of all of your exits & re-entries into Canada.

Yes, but you will have an absolute nightmare trying to account for all of those days. Even if you returned every day, you still have to list each day of foreign travel.

Thanks for the replies, this work period will be for 1 year duration which is why im concerned as to whether it will count.
so it sounds like the hurdle is actually proving my return, what is the best way to prove physical presence ?
do you think this might cause delays to my citizenship grant or triggers a RQ?

FYI, iam an Iraqi citizen, not sure if that changes anything.

This gives you 100% chance of getting RQ. And if your case is processed afterward within the normal 36 months that will be a good outcome.

Wouldn't an i-94 report help here? As he's not a US citizen it would be kept on him, correct?

It doesn't matter actually. It was observed multiple times that travels to the US and mere having US visa triggers RQ often. With the way of life OP thinks about RQ will be almost inevitable.

How many days of physical presence do you have so far?

Probably looking at applying late 2019 to be safe? You'll want to renew your PR card and get NEXUS if you can.

so the thing is, after the 1 year training i will have a permanent job placement, which means by july 2019 i have to apply for citizenship and then relocate to the US, thus i wont be able to accumulate any more days. i will probably be have 1095+- 20 days.

It's always a risk to not have a good buffer when you have that much travel back and forth, so I'd advise to have at least the +20.
