I am writing this, as I have a query regarding my immigration and I am really depressed with it. I applied for immigration and got visa stamp on 08-March-2017, the visa is valid till 08-March-2018. I have the plan to move in February - 2018. The reason to be late is some family issue.

Now my question is, what are the requirements to keep this visa valid? Means how many years I have to stay in Canada just to keep my PR (Not Citizenship requirements).

Actually, I am planning to visit Canada in Feb-2018 for a week or so and then came back for 2 years and finally move to Canada in 2019 permanently.

Waiting for your kind response and expert opinion.

Are you sure your landing must be completed by March 2018? It should be written on your COPR but should correspond the expiration of your medical approval.

See the rules here http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/5445ETOC.asp#appendixA

Basically once you land then in the first 5 years you must accumulate a min 730 days in Canada. In effect this means you could in theory spend near 3 years away as long as in returning the next 2 years you dont leave.

Remember though you will need a Canadian address for your PR card to be mailed to else if not you will need to apply for a PRTD to be able to fly back to Canada. Also do not as others still seem to confuse the PR card expiry date with the residency obligation, only the 5 years from the landing date count not the PR card start/end date.

Yes canuck, expiry on the visa is 08-Mar-2018. What will happen if goto Canada before 08-March-2018 and will come back in a month? Will my PR revoke?

You need to land before March 8th and yes you can leave after you land and return when you want to settle permanently.

Thanks people for your prompt responses. From bits of advice, I understand that I can come back after landing.

Yes but make sure you either have someone , a friend for example, mail or courier your PR card to you else you need to apply for a PRTD given without one or the other you will not be able to board a plane to return.

As said you can land and leave straight away then stay away for max nearly 3 years as long as you still accumulate 730 days in Canada in the first 5 years. So for example if you stayed away for the full 3 years you would need to stay the next 2 years without leaving at all to maintain your residency obligation.

Thank BS65, I have a friend there and I will ask him to courier PR. Again thanks to all of you fellows for your valuable support advice.
