Hello everyone!

1. I am US citizen and want to go to Canada to visit my sister. I want to take my car (US plated). Is there any requirements in the border?

2. Also, can I use my car around Winnipeg while I am there? Is my driver's license valid in Canada?

3. How long can I stay and my car in Canada?

4. What will happen if I leave my car in Canada when I go back to U.S.? Can I sell it?

5. Is there any problem or what to expect driving a US car to Canada?

Please help.

Your license and your car are fine. Just make sure to call your insurance company and get a card that shows you have insurance coverage in Canada (usually they do this for free). You can drive around anywhere in Canada you would like that is legally open to the driving public.

You may stay as long as the BSO says; if she doesn't say anything, the limit is 6 months.

You cannot sell your car in Canada, because it has not been imported into Canada. You may leave it, but there are rules around that as well.

I've never found any big differences, although you need to learn about converting between MPH and KPH. Plus gas is quite a bit more expensive in Canada than in the US.

Enjoy your trip!
