This is a link from CBC news.. why would they prevent or delay people for so long from having a citizenship that will help him work better and travel easier.. and besides once u apply for citizenship .. u will be no longer counting days and restrain urself from international chances!!!

What do u think guys?

My opinion... Bad news..

It is....Canada should realise that they need to make life easy for immigrants not tough.

Second that. I'll wait until there's a public release of that information on the CIC website.
On the other hand, I'm happy with my current citizenship as well :)

It seems like the time requirement will increase, the minister himself has said "Longer wait time to apply, but shorter wait time to process".

Extra years in Canada as a PR means, knowing the country's system more. Also, i know some people want to get citizenship only to exploit the benefits as a Citizen. A lot of them will fail, if they have to wait for more years.

That being said personally I would not want to wait more, only because I want to apply as soon as possible (when the time comes). I want to gather my documents and send - I don't want to wait extra two years!

Waiting for more years = more things can go wrong (more changes).

if true at all, they want people to immigrate permanently and they do not want passengers and just money makers.
They want money makers, because they make money off of them...

I read that Canada is looking for people who will come permanently: work, school, retirement, kids.
Even the ones that come temporarily and spend money in the Canadian Economy, they are happy with. Think of how much money that is. The Canadian government is not stupid, they just have to be politically correct. And they are not looking for people to retire, because that takes money out of the system. They want people that will bring money into the system, it's really easy to understand.

Besides .. asking someone to be physically present in a single country for 5 years is too hard.. many jobs need travelling.. everyone want to send his wife and kids back home for summer.. we still have families and ties there.. they can't just do that.. US immigration is easier and more comfortable.. also why don't they want one to enjoy the benefits of citizenship ? Isn't piving here for three years out of four long enough?? Many canadians work in other countries and still pay taxes to Canada... it is not the money thing.. I am really annoyed..

From what I know, US immigration is WAAAAAAAAY harder, people get a green card after 10 years etc.

And what is really annoying is that they only accept one year of your residency in Canada before you get your PR. I have been living here for 6 years. and in case I get my PR this year, I only will be able to get my citizenship with the people who came here only one year ago! Now if they are really concerned about people understanding so called Canadian values, how come you only can learn about these values after you get your PR?!! Or if they want to make sure that you really want to live in this country, does not my 6 year residency prove anything??!! It does not at all make sense to me!

Totally agree with you. Seems unfair living in a country for so many years as a temporary resident(student and worker) and then only get to count a year of that towards citizenship after obtaining PR. So many of us have lived and contributed to Canadian society as temporary workers for years but then someone comes along as a new PR(who never lived in Canada) and they can get citizenship just a year after us. Total BS!!! The system is messed up but what can we do, right???

The thing is they don't pay taxes to Canada! I know of people who have businesses in their countries and make real good money. But still here they file their taxes as unemployed and don't report anything about their revenues out of country. I wish Canada had a better integrated system. Because most of these people have immigrated through business classes or as entrepreneurs but still use all the social benefits here in Canada as they claim they don't have any income!

I know, we can do nothing! Just wait and see what the new rules would be! Maybe finally someone someday recognize our contribution to this country!

4 out of 6 years is supposed to be the new requirement, huh? That's not too bad. Considering that time before becoming
PR can be counted as well...
