Hi.
My parents recently got their TRV and I booked a ticket for them to come to Canada for the first week of December. I have not booked any return ticket yet but few of my friends told me that it is necessary to have a return ticket with them. Can somebody suggest me is it really necessary to buy a return ticket before they reach here??

It’s the general advice in case the CBSA officer at the port of entry asks to see it, lest they run the risk of being denied entry. More of a precautionary measure than a strict requirement, given the worst case scenario. Also, some airlines do not allow boarding without a return ticket anyway, if on a visitor TRV.

I believe it was @Buletruck who had an experience of booking a return flight 24 hours before entry on Air Canada and being able to cancel it fee-free while within the 24-hour cancellation window...the return flight doesn’t even have to be on the same booking as the Canada-bound flight.

Thanks for the reply. One question here. although in most of the cases, visa is valid for 6 months, so if I book a return ticket in between 5 to 6 months from entry date, that will be useful?? coz I don't know what immigration officer will decide for the length of stay..

I personally can’t say for sure. It really depends on the officer and the interview with your parents. Although in my view, a return ticket is better than none.

When did your parents applied their visa?from where they have applied? Was that online application or paper application?
I applied an online application on behalf of them from here in Canada itself on 24th Sep and got an approval letter on 4th October. Submitted the passports at VFS NewDelhi on 8th October and got the passports back after stamping on 10th October.
