Hi, I am a Permanent Resident and my husband is a Canadian citizen. He has found a good work opportunity in the States and we are wondering whether we should move to the States. My question is whether the requirement to spend the 3 years in Canada at the time of renewal is firm or is there any flexibility when the spouse is working abroad? I think an IO mentioned it to me last year when I was getting the PR that the residency requirement is flexible if the spouse is working abroad but I'm not sure.

Can someone shed some light on this?

Thanks.

I think if you are accompanying a Canadian citizen, your days still count towards maintaining your residency.

That is right. Days spent with your Canadian citizen spouse outside Canada also count towards the PR residency requirement but not towards the citizenship requirement.

Yay!! you made my day. :)
