Hi,

I am a Canadian citizen. My wife recently obtained Canadian PR via family class (spousal) sponsorship. She already landed in Canada and obtained Canadian PR card. I have a job offer in the US. Is it possible for her to maintain Canadian PR status in case she joins me to the US and does not stay in Canada during the next few years? If it is possible, can she even apply for Canadian citizenship after 3 years? Thank you.

She can maintain her PR status through the accompany a citizen abroad rule . Important to keep good records and proof though especially for when returning to Canada at any time and also when eventually comes to renew a PR card which cannot be the way be renewed from outside of Canada

However citizenship requires physical presence in Canada to qualify so cannot qualify for citizenship from the time outside of Canada.

Read appendix A, although specific to renew PR card the guidance is same
